Why theater?: Because it is essential
Who do you play in Mother’s Day?: I play Joey, who plays a drag queen named Helen Back. So I play both.
Tell us about Mother’s Day: A drag queen comes home for Mother's Day with a special announcement for the family. It doesn't end well.
What is it like being a part of Mother’s Day?: I love working on new plays. Truly. There is nothing like bringing a brand new story to life, with characters that no one has ever seen before in the American Theater. It's always a gift. And this is a brilliant team across the board.
What kind of theater speaks to you? What or who inspires you as an artist?: Every kind of theater. It's all part of the conversation. Naked vulnerability with a side of self-effacing humor. See: Elaine Stritch.
Any roles you’re dying to play?: Hedwig and Louis in Angels In America.
What’s your favorite showtune?: "'Maybe This Time" from Cabaret.
If you could work with anyone you’ve yet to work with, who would it be?: Meryl. Fucking. Streep.
Who would play you in a movie about yourself and what would it be called?: "Who The Hell Is Karl Gregory?" starring Alan Cumming. (my spirit animal)
What shows have you recommended to your friends?: Casa Valentina, Sleep No More, Hand To God, Glass Menagerie, Pippin, Here Lies Love
What’s the most played song on your iTunes?: Currently it's, "Rather Be" by Jess Glynne
What’s your biggest guilty pleasure?: Tacos and vodka.
What’s up next?: I shot an episode of "Alpha House" on Amazon, which will air this fall. And have some gigs lined up through 2015. Check karlgregory.com for updates!
